Harry Groener is Prospero
SOC is very proud to bring one of America's finest actors to Orange County, to star in Shakespeare's most magical play. Harry Groener, who you may know from his long-running stint as The Mayor on BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, is a legend in the New York theatre scene.
Groener has garnered Tony nominations as the star of CRAZY FOR YOU, CATS, and OKLAHOMA on Broadway, and this versatile pro has also won the LA DRAMA CRITICS' CIRCLE BEST ACTOR AWARD for his portrayal of the title role in KING LEAR, the LOS ANGELES OVATION AWARD FOR BEST ACTOR for EQUIVOCATION at The Geffen Theatre, and THE JOSEPH JEFFERSON AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACTOR for starring in the title role of THE MADNESS OF KING GOERGE. Harry's film performances include ABOUT SCHMIDT with Jack Nicholson and PATCH ADAMS with ROBIN WILLIAMS. He'll lead a stellar cast in this exotic presentation of this beautiful play, which many say was Shakespeare's farewell to the theater.
Morlan Higgins is Caliban
SOC announces legendary LA Actor Morlan Higgins will play Caliban in THE TEMPEST! Higgins is a five-time LA DRAMA CRITICS' CIRCLE AWARD WINNER for Best Actor. He is also the first person to ever win back-to-back LA OVATION AWARDS for Best Actor
Hal Landon, Jr is Gonzalo
SOC announces one of the most beloved actors in the history of Orange County, Hal "Ebenezer Scrooge" Landon, Jr, will return this summer as Gonzalo in THE TEMPEST, opening in July! Mr. Landon played Polonius in last year's audience hit and critically-acclaimed HAMLET, and SOC is thrilled to welcome him back.
Mr. Landon is a founding member of Orange County's Tony-Award winning South Coast Repertory, where he has played more than 100 roles, including 37 years as Scrooge in SCR's annual hit, A CHRISTMAS CAROL. His film roles include such classics as BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, BILL AND TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY, David Lynch's ERASERHEAD, PEE WEE'S BIG HOLIDAY and last year's HBO sensation ALL THE WAY.
Peter Uribe, Director
Director Peter Uribe has signed on to direct SOC's 2017 production of THE TEMPEST. SOC is thrilled to have Mr. Uribe back, after directing HAMLET (with David Denman), which was named by OC critics as last year's BEST DRAMA IN ORANGE COUNTY, AS YOU LIKE IT, and our smash hit musical PIRATES OF PENZANCE over the past two seasons. Mr. Uribe also played Juliet's father in SOC's landmark 2015 attendance-shattering production of ROMEO AND JULIET. His long directing career includes the rock musical QUADROPHENIA for Pete Townsend and THE WHO, and the current development of a new musical for the Arthur Miller Estate, based on Mr. Miller's play, THE CREATION OF THE WORLD AND OTHER BUSINESS. He is an LA WEEKLY AWARD winner and is dedicating THE TEMPEST to his father, who remains to this day his number one hero. Welcome back, Peter!
